What gets checked in a pre-purchase inspection? And what does not?
- We always include a vehicle history check.
- We include a diagnostic scan where possible (usually cars after 2003).
Engine
- Normally we start with checking the engine. Is it hot? Has it been started prior to the inspection?
- We check the fluids, oils, coolant, brake fluid etc.
- We check the engine bay for unusual noises or smells. We check the visible drive belts (not the timing belt), visible engine mounts, we look for oil / coolant / fluid leaks.
Interior functions
- We check the dash lights. We check all the electrical functions like wipers, horn, windows, steering wheel buttons, radio, seats functions, etc.
Exterior mechanical
- We check tyres and visible brakes (we do not take wheels of to inspect drum brakes).
- We check under the car, suspension, steering, driveshafts, fluid leaks, engine mounts, exhaust, radiator, underbody rust or damage, etc.
- We check the battery.
- We check the lights.
Exterior body
- We inspect the car outside car body for damage, scratches, rust, general cometic condition and for signs of previous accident damage.
Interior
- We check door handles, general interior condition like seats and trims, interior lights. We check the boot and spare wheel.
Test drive
- We do a 5 km test drive on which we follow the road rules.
- We listen for unusual noises, we accelerate, brake, shift through the gears, feel the steering, test cruise control, test if 4wd features engage smoothly, feel if the air con gets cold.
- We have a brief look at the service book, but we do not call any mechanics who did the services.
We do not do compression checks.
- We do not inspect modifications, retrofits, lpg systems or external additions things like tents or awnings.
Do I get a report?
- At the moment we only offer verbal reports, that is a quick and easy way to explain the condition of a vehicle.
Do you give a warranty?
- NO, we do NOT give any warranty or take any liability. And we don’t know any other company who does that.
- Other companies are hiding themself behind long and complicated terms and conditions. We don’t do that.
- Everything said in a pre-purchase report is just the opinion of the examiner.
